learn to drive. build confidence. become independent.

More than just learning to drive.

Learning to drive is about much more than passing a driving test.Turning Point Driving School is an independent, local driving school built around one simple idea that no two learners are the same.Everyone learns differently, so your lessons are tailored to you, your experience and your pace, helping you become a safe, confident and independent driver.

Your journey.

What do you need for your first lesson?Just yourself and your provisional licence.
We recommend comfortable clothing and sensible, flat footwear.
Will I have to drive straight away? Not necessarily, and that's completely normal.
We'll start at a pace that suits you and build things up as your confidence develops.
What can I expect? We'll introduce you to the car, go through the basic controls and checks, then start building the foundations of good driving.I'm nervous! That's completely normal. There's no expectation that you'll know what you're doing before you arrive, that's what your instructor is there for.

Learning & progression.

We use the DVSA learning-to-drive syllabus as a foundation, adapted to suit the way we teach and the individual needs of the learner. You'll develop the skills, awareness and judgement needed to become a safe, confident and independent driver. As you progress, you'll gradually take on more responsibility, applying what you've learned to real-life driving situations. There's no set number of lessons needed to be test-ready — your instructor will help you understand your progress and what you need to work on next.

Theory test.

We recommend working on your theory alongside your practical lessons. We can point you towards useful revision and hazard perception resources to help you prepare and feel confident when booking your test.

Practical test.

You'll gain experience across a range of roads and driving situations, including independent driving and manoeuvres, while developing the consistency and decision-making needed to drive safely. When you and your instructor feel you're ready, we'll help you prepare for the practical test and make sure you know what to expect on the day.

Your journey, and beyond.

Passing your driving test is a big moment. When the day arrives, your instructor will make sure you know what to expect and are ready to take your test independently. But passing your test is only the beginning. Whether it's your first solo drive, heading off to university, getting to work or simply having the freedom to go wherever you want, you'll be ready to take what you've learned with you.Learn to drive. Build confidence. Become independent.

Our team.

Damien

Founder and Driving Instructor

In 2022 I founded Turning Point Driving School with a clear vision: no two learners are the same, so no single teaching approach works for everyone. Students often say I’m patient and easy to get along with, and that I help them build confidence behind the wheel while making lessons enjoyable. I tailor each lesson to the individual, helping learners gain the skills and assurance they need to drive safely and pass their test with confidence.

Brent

Driving Instructor

I began my instructing journey after supporting my daughter through private practice in preparation for her driving test, which inspired my passion for teaching. Students often say I create a great learning environment that helps boost confidence and make lessons genuinely enjoyable. I’m known for being clear, patient, and supportive, with a natural ability to create an uplifting atmosphere that helps learners feel relaxed, confident, and safe as they develop their driving skills.

Jan

Driving Instructor

An instructor with 30 years’ experience, I teach learners of all levels, from complete beginners to advanced drivers, using a calm, step-by-step approach that builds confidence, safety, and independence. Students appreciate my friendly, patient guidance and practical lessons that focus on real-world driving, preparing them for any road, traffic, or weather condition. I support pupils steadily until everything clicks, helping them reach those satisfying “aha” moments when driving suddenly feels natural and confident.

Bev

The Team behind the Team

Bev helps keep things running smoothly behind the scenes. She’s always happy to help, answering enquiries and making sure new learners are connected with the instructor best suited to them. She’s often the friendly person behind the reply, helping make the process as straightforward as possible from the very first contact. As Damien's wife and part of Turning Point from the beginning, Bev plays an important role in keeping the school organised, approachable and personal.
